The National Federation of Property Professionals (NFOPP) Awarding Body is committed to raising standards within the letting and property management profession through the provision of accredited, nationally recognised qualifications. The NFOPP Awarding Body is independent and recognised by the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). This means we have to follow strict guidelines and maintain quality standards in the provision of all our qualifications.
The Technical Award in Residential Letting and Property Management is a Level 3 qualification within the National Qualifications Framework, which means it is broadly equivalent to A-Level standard.
The qualification is open to all and is a requirement for membership of the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA). It is an introductory qualification ideal for candidates wanting to gain or improve existing knowledge in the key areas related to residential letting and property management.
The qualification syllabus is divided into 4 Units as follows:
Unit 1 - Health and Safety, Security and General Law
Unit 2 - Legal Aspects of Letting and Management
Unit 3 - Residential Property Letting Practice
Unit 4 - Residential Property Management Practice
You can study for the Technical Award in the comfort of your home or office, using open learning materials, or by supported distance learning facilitated by our preferred technical award supplier MOL. This means that you can take advantage of flexible learning which can fit into your lifestyle. To purchase the learning materials please call MOL on 0161 203 2103.
As a general guide, we expect that those who have been working within the letting industry for some time will need approximately 60 hours of study, and those who are new to the profession about 150 hours.

The Technical Award is divided into 4 Units and each Unit is assessed by a multiple-choice exam which is taken on a computer at a test centre. Each exam consists of 20 multiple-choice questions which must be answered within 30 minutes.

HOW LONG WILL THE QUALIFCATION TAKE?
This really depends on how you undertake the study necessary and if you have previous experience in agency. Although you do not have to be employed or have previous experience within agency you will find your studies more relevant and maybe easier than if you have no experience. Please refer to the syllabus in order to determine what knowledge you already hold relevant to the qualification.
You have 12 months from first achieving a pass mark in 1 or more Units to complete all 4 Units of the qualification. If you fail to achieve a pass in all 4 units within this timescale you will need to re-start the qualification.
Each Unit has a pass mark of 65%. You will be notified of your provisional results at the test centre immediately after finishing your exams. An official confirmation of your results will be sent in writing from the NFOPP Qualifications Team. If you have passed the qualification you will receive a certificate confirming your success within four weeks.
Before starting the qualification read the examination regulations and syllabus which can be found below. To order the study materials call MOL on 0161 203 2103. Further information on training can be found on MOL’s website at www.mol-openlearning.co.uk.
